“LESS IS MORE.” (MIES VAN DER ROHE) · This is more than a quote, it’s a governing philosophy. To this end, whenever possible, I like to develop smaller project footprints that feel bigger than they are – this is accomplished through intelligent spatial proportion and organization. Doing this successfully during the design phase allows the project to have the budgetary freedom to use better materials and higher quality craftsmanship during construction.
COMMERCIAL TO RESIDENTIAL · I have never limited the work undertaken to a particular type. Over the past twenty years and throughout greater Boston and New York, I have successfully remodeled older homes, built out warehouse space for adaptive re-use, and, of course, undertaken new construction.
ADVANCED DESIGN TECHNOLOGIES AND CONSTRUCTION / MANUFACTURING METHODOLOGIES · I use a combination of traditional hand sketching and physical modeling techniques, along with the most sophisticated computational modeling software and digital fabrication methodologies available today, to enable my clients to “see” a project from the very beginning and actively participate in its evolution. These visualization and design analysis tools also have the added benefit of helping us (the architect and client) to identify potential cost saving opportunities and better design solutions.
BUSINESS MODEL · HLMA utilizes the design-to-build method of project delivery. The architectural design and construction phases are seamlessly joined giving the client a single point of contact throughout project design and execution.
LEED CERTIFICATION · In addition to being a licensed Architect and experienced builder, I am a LEED Accredited Professional. This means I can shepherd any project through the process of LEED certification.
